Download speed issues, mostly from the UK

There has been an undersea fiber cut that is currently impacting many services out of Amsterdam and the surrounding area. Most affected, are users from the UK connecting to our EU servers. Customers in the EU connecting to our US may also be affected to a lesser extent. The transit provider currently has a ship out at sea, and repairs are under way.

If you are currently experiencing slower than usual download speeds you should try the following workarounds:

UK based BinTube Usenet Reader and BinTube Usenet Accelerator users:

Shutdown BinTube Accelerator as it will automatically connect you to the closet servers. Set your location in BinTube Usenet Reader to Americas.

UK based users who use other Usenet clients:

Shutdown BinTube Accelerator (if in use) and change the server address to us.bintube.com in your newsreader.

EU based BinTube Usenet Reader and BinTube Usenet Accelerator users:

No change required.

EU based BinTube Usenet Reader users:

You should select Europe as your region or install BinTube Accelerator

EU based users who use other Usenet clients:

You should set your server address to eu.bintube.com or install BinTube Accelerator and set your server address to 127.0.0.1

Due to weather conditions the cable ship is in stand-by until midday /afternoon tomorrow.

Repairs on the UK side of the cable are ongoing and should be completed today. Once this is complete repairs will commence on the Netherlands side of the cable, We will provide another update once more information becomes available to us.

Both ends of the cable have been repaired and preliminary testing by the transit provider is under way. If everything goes as planned, the repair crew will cover the cables and perform final tests.

Testing is now complete. The cable has been lowered back into the seabed. Traffic levels are returning to normal. We thank you for your patience in this matter.
